Causermaker is the joint endeavor of interdisciplinary artists and craftspersons Rachel E. Dorsey and James William Blake. We function as an independent (garage and kitchen table) artist and fabrication studio based in northern California. Our work foregrounds craft traditions and reclaimed materials within a contemporary fine art lens.
You can support our work by purchasing hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind bowls, spoons, and unique furniture made from reclaimed wood, as well as limited edition prints and textile products.
We can also provide quotes for custom furniture, wood/metal fabrication, and multi-craft projects. Send us your dream project ideas and a budget estimate!
Nearly born and entirely raised in Petaluma California, James Blake's current work interprets contemporary conversations about sustainability and the role of fine art through traditional approaches to functional objects. Refined lines and analog tools join storied materials to become carbon worth sequestering. Conglomerations of wood, metal, and rubber support performance works while wood and steel commissions elevate the living spaces of Sonoma county residents.
