The world is your oyster!
Typically, we use a food grade cutting board oil/wax, however we specify the particular finish in the shop listing of each individual piece.
Like many small businesses, we calculate costs based on the cost of materials (if any), labor hours (from sourcing material to home milling to carving to finishing), figure in a percentage of overhead and shop consumables, and consider any special or unique features in a particular piece that may increase its value.
Because we have a team of two, we wear many hats, and handcraft is a slower and more human labor intensive process than much of mass manufacturing. The result is a truly unique, meticulously crafted piece of usable art for which we strive to charge a mutually fair price. We are also open to trade and barter options, so please contact us to make a proposition!
We always keep our eyes peeled for special logs that can be ethically salvaged in our local community and when we travel to see family in the PNW, New York, or Massachusetts. As a result, the vast majority of our current stock is made of wood reclaimed from all over Sonoma County, CA, with a few notable outliers from Seattle and Western Massachusetts. We can tell you the specific location of origin for each bowl, spoon, and platter!
